Mr Richard J Grogan
FRCS(Tr&Orth), PGDipMALSE, BM, BS, BMedSci(hons)
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Bradford Royal Infirmary
Honorary Senior Lecturer University of Leeds
Medical director Alliance Surgical
I was appointed to Bradford Royal Infirmary in February 2005. My registrar training included sub-speciality fellowships in hip and knee replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery and hip re-surfacing. As a consultant I have developed a large lower limb primary and revision arthroplasty practice with a specific expertise in the surgical management of the young arthritic patient.
For focal degenerative conditions in the knee I am able to offer patients partial joint replacement (medial/lateral unicondylar and patello-femoral). Computer navigation has enhanced my surgical repertoire in the treatment of complex primary knee replacement and I have recently introduced custom, shape matching technology with patient specific instruments.
Extensive hip replacement experience allows me to tailor surgical intervention to individual patient needs. I am equally comfortable in the use of cemented and un-cemented hip systems to conserve/ restore bone stock and select the optimal bearing surfaces for specific functional demands. My early adoption of computer navigation into hip resurfacing has helped ensure the accuracy, reproducibility and excellent outcomes of this operation in my hands.
In addition to my elective surgical interests I continue to manage general trauma patients and am on the faculty for AO UK courses. In my role as honorary senior lecturer I supervise, train and teach undergraduate medical students, junior and senior surgical trainees.
